Chow King Braised Beef Recipe...My Style!

One of my favorite fastfood dish...Braised Beef from Chow King. Been looking for a recipe and found one to my liking, and here it is being shared to everyone. Another easy to do recipe but you need patience waiting for it to be cook. Braising is a slow process wherein you seared the meat at a high temperature in the beginning and let the meat stay in a covered pot on a low heat till the meat becomes tender. Forms of braising are using pressure cooker or using crockpots. But for this recipe, I used the traditional way of braising, which is slow cooking over my stovetop. It was done in over three hours. The waiting was all worth it, but then maybe next time...I will use my crockpot instead of it sitting in our basement and I can all tell you which one yield a better outcome. Just follow the recipe as shown...my style!

Ingredients:
250 gms beef
3cups water & 1/4 cup cornstarch
2 tbsp. Kikkoman soy sauce
2 tbsp. soy sauce
2 star anise
1 tbsp. minced onion
1 tsp sugar
1 medium carrot diced
1 tsp cornstarch
Freshly ground pepper
Spring onions

In a saucepan, combine beef, minced onion,
Kikkoman soy sauce, soy sauce, star anise, sugar and
the ground pepper.
Add the water and let it boil, then turn the heat to low and
let it simmer till the beef is tender.
When the beef is tender, add the carrots. Don't overcook!
Transfer to a plate, and serve with rice. Garnish with
chopped spring onions. Enjoy when it still warm.
