Beef with Brocolli

Who cannot resist this delicious dish? It is healthy and very yummy! Broccoli is considered a miracle food because it is rich in Vitamins A, Vitamin C, folic acid, calcium and fiber and they have phytochemical that can lower the rates of cancer according to research.
Broccoli florets is a vegetable that is very easy to find in the market. Though it took me awhile to actually find the stem and leaves that my mother usually add in this dish whenever she cooks it. That is why whenever I come home to the Philippines I will request this one. But now that I know where to get them I can make them anytime. The stem and the leaves actually come from Chinese broccoli which you can buy at Asian supermarket. I don't use it's florets though because it has a bitter taste for me. Don't worry there is not too much of them anyway. You just have to be patient in peeling off the outer covering of the stem to get the flesh inside it and slice it to pieces. The leaves you just cut them off.

Ingredients:

1 lb beef sirloin/tenderloin sliced thinly
2 cups broccoli
1/2 cup Chinese broccoli stems (optional)
2 cups cut broccoli leaves (optional)
5 cloves garlic minced
1 small onion sliced
2 tbsp oyster sauce
1 tbsp soy sauce
3 tbsp cooking oil
1/2 tsp corn starch diluted in 3 tbsp water

Procedure

1. Heat cooking oil in a pan.
2. Saute minced garlic and onion.
3. Add beef.
4. Stir fry beef till its tender. You may add 2-3 tbsp water here so it does not dry up.
5. Add soy sauce and oyster sauce.
6. Put the broccoli leaves, stem and florets.
7. Put the corn starch diluted in water till sauce thickens. Let it simmer to desired consistency of broccoli. (I don't like it overcook...it taste better when it's crunchy).
8. Serve hot with rice.

Enjoy...(",)
